S/H 2017-18 Summer Parent Letter

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the summer months! As always, we remain busy on campus preparing for your son to return in August! Summer projects include the development of a Preschool and Lower School Tinker Lab, a Lower School Science Room, a new Music Wing, and the highly anticipated green space. We can’t wait for you and your sons, our boys, to see all of our great new spaces!

Our faculty has also been busy this summer with professional development. Our teachers have crossed the country to attend the International Boys School Coalition Conference, the International Society for Technology in Education Conference, Daily 5 for Reading and Daily 3 for Math and more, all in an effort to strengthen and add to their knowledge base and expertise which ultimately benefits our boys! The faculty, staff and administration are looking forward to an exciting 2017-2018 school year filled with fun, hard work and much learning!

In addition, this summer brings to a close our year long ISAS (Independent School Association of the Southwest) Reaccreditation Self-Study and Documentation of Adherence to Standards. We look forward to welcoming the ISAS Visitation Committee to our campus on September 17-20.

As Stuart Hall School for Boys embarks on a new year in the education and formation of boys, our theme for the year will be to Seize the Day. God graces us with opportunities daily to give generously to those in need, to embrace kindness, practice compassion and stand up for justice. My hope is that as a school community we can continue to embrace these opportunities and seek out ways each day to make a positive difference in the lives of those around us! Mother Teresa said, “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” As we continue our mission as leaders in the formation and education of boys in our community, we will focus this year on making the most of each day.

I am also drawn to these words by our namesake, Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ, “It is always here and now, there is always the present moment to do the very best we can with, and the future depends on the way these moments are spent.”  Let us be charged by Mother Stuart’s words of wisdom and in the upcoming year celebrate our daily opportunities for personal growth and service to others.

Included with this letter are: important notes and reminders, faculty assignments, new faculty information, and details on the opening days of school.  Additionally, preliminary information is included about our after-school offerings for the fall.  In the final weeks of summer, I hope you find some time for rest and relaxation as a family!  I can’t wait to begin another exciting year at Stuart Hall!  If you need assistance with anything or have any questions about these enclosures, I am available at school (861-1954) or by email (bhagan@stuarthall.org).

Sincerely,

Bridget F. Hagan, Ph.D.
Assistant Head of School
