Moscona Announcement

To Our Stuart Hall Community:

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we want to inform you that Brian Moscona has decided that he will not return as Stuart Hall’s Head of School next school year.

The Board appreciates Mr. Moscona’s service to Stuart Hall, working with our faculty and staff to help our boys transition through a second year of COVID protocols and overseeing the launch of our strategic plan. Under Mr. Moscona’s leadership, the school’s enrollment and finances have remained strong, and the school is well-positioned for continued success in the years ahead.

The Board has initiated a process of identifying a new Head of School. To ensure that we identify and select the candidates best suited for guiding Stuart Hall in the years to come, we anticipate that we will first hire an interim Head of School for the 2022-23 school year and then a permanent Head of School prior to the 2023-24 school year. We will update you as we proceed through this search process in the coming weeks.

Stuart Hall is blessed with an administrative team, faculty and staff that create an excellent, caring learning environment for our sons. They all reflect the qualities that our boys learn and strive to live daily – friendship, compassion, thankfulness, peacemaker, courage, perseverance, responsibility and honesty. During this time of transition, we are grateful that we can continue to count on this entire team to continue to do the work God has called them to do.

Sincerely,

Taylor Mouledoux

President, Board of Trustees

Dear Stuart Hall Community,

My purpose in writing this letter is to share that I have decided not to return to Stuart Hall after the conclusion of this school year. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your boys over the past nine months. It has been a privilege to participate in the formation of your sons, and I will continue to pray that they will grow into the great men that God calls them to be.
I am truly grateful for the ways my own children have grown and developed this year and for all of those who have been part of their experience here. Stuart Hall is extremely blessed with an amazing faculty of talented women and men who love our boys so much.
Please be assured of my prayers for you and your family as we journey through Holy Week. May the peace and joy of the risen Christ be with each of you, and may you have a blessed celebration of Easter!
In Christ,

Mr. Moscona

2020-21 Return to Campus Preparations

Dear Parents,

COVID-19+UPDATE.png

We pray that you, your sons, and your families are doing well and enjoying a semblance of summer vacation. Along with our faculty, we have great anticipation of our “Jump-Start” Sessions in late July.

Wednesday, August 12th, the first day of our 2020-2021 school year, is quickly approaching. We look forward to this blessed day and the reunion with our boys on campus.

As we expressed in our end-of-the-year message to you, we have been exhaustively planning for classes on our campus to our purpose, the formation and education of those entrusted to us. We want to update you on our plans for our physical return to campus. We will need to make adjustments to our normal routines until we have a medical breakthrough in vaccination or treatment. Our preparation with a “strategically flexible” plan will position our school to have our boys on campus consistently. We aim to accomplish this without compromising the safeguards needed for health and safety to deliver our values-based formational and educational program and to carry forward meaningful relationships between our boys and their devoted and talented teachers. Our goal is to provide the most robust learning experiences for the education of your sons, our boys, regardless of the various situations that may be imposed upon us.

Guided by best practices and with much prayer, we are preparing “Stuart Hall Learning Scenarios” for the 2020-2021 school year. Each scenario is dependent upon how the Virus is affecting our community and our school. Mitigation effectiveness and infection rate will determine which robust learning scenario we will utilize. In our “Open Campus Scenario,” students are able to return to campus for classes with some modifications and will be the closest to what Stuart Hall is missioned to be. Additional details will be provided in future communications. A few examples of our modifications are:

Wellness

  • Our new full-time School Nurse will manage health concerns, safety, and protocols. We have built a nurse’s office to provide a dedicated space for our Nurse to care for our boys and faculty.

  • We will have protocols for school arrivals and departures. Examples include:

    • All boys and faculty will wear masks.

    • Temperature checks will be conducted before entry to campus. We have purchased an infrared temperature scanner with artificial intelligence to provide us with touch-free, safe, accurate, and efficient temperature checks.

    • Hand sanitation will be required upon entry.

  • During the school day, boys in PK3 - 7th Grade will wear masks with age-appropriate discretion exercised. Faculty, Staff, and Middle School boys will wear masks when indoors under most circumstances.

Cleanliness

  • We will install several hand washing stations on campus.

  • There will be additional cleaning and disinfecting protocols and procedures for the classrooms, outdoor areas, and all parts of our school buildings.

  • We are purchasing an electrostatic sanitation device to allow us greater thoroughness and efficiency with sanitation.

Logistics

  • We anticipate our boys may need to be divided into cohorts to limit their exposure to different people throughout the school day.

  • We are planning lunch and snack logistic options. Because of sanitary constraints, boys will eat in their designated classrooms.

  • We will have appropriate distancing measures for routine activities. We are planning for the directional traffic flow of our boys and faculty through campus to allow for safe distancing.

  • When circumstances allow for group gatherings in the Van Vranken Chapel, Finegan Dining Room, gym, or outdoor areas, we will adjust the number of participants and configuration based on the circumstances to accommodate the number of boys safely.

  • All after-school activities will be determined by conditions of the Virus.

Medical and education experts have advised us that our planning must allow for flexibility should the conditions of COVID-19 dictate change. In addition to our Open Campus Scenario, we have outlined contingency plans that are flexible and adaptable. Creating these plans now will allow us to respond quickly to any public health situations that our school, city, and state may face.

Our number one priority is the safe reopening and operation of our physical campus. Having all scenarios thought out will provide us with the strategic agility to create a seamless transition between the various instructional delivery methods for our Stuart Hall faith and values-based curriculum regardless of what challenges may come.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 12th. Additional information about our start and our scenarios will be provided to you no later than mid-July. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of us.

In closing, we continue to pray for the protection of our community and for those who have been affected by COVID-19 and those who serve in the health, medical fields, and areas of essential need and support. We also pray for the wisdom and understanding of scientists as they seek to develop treatments and vaccines for our battle against the Virus.

“The higher we want to fly, the greater the risk, but that is the glorious part of it. The great uncertainties in which we trust God, the breathless risks we run, with no assurance but our great trust in God, that seems to me to be of the essence of our life and its beauty. This will grow upon you; you will get your balance in the risk and get to love it.” - Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ

A Grateful Ending and a Prayerful Beginning

COVID-19+UPDATE.png

To Our Stuart Hall Family:

As we watch the calendar move deeper into May, the days in our 2019-2020 school year have come to an end. This is a school year that will be remembered forever.

These are uncertain times that called for an unprecedented approach to learning for our boys. We introduced a remote learning platform within days. Our families changed their schedules and habits as each of you adjusted to a new way to learn and share. As we close out the 2019-2020 school year, our sincerest appreciation goes to Dr. Reuter, Mrs. d’Hemecourt and Mrs. Maurin and each of our faculty members, whose dedication to our sons revealed itself in even larger ways during these last weeks.

Thank you to each of our young men and our parents for your patience, prayer and persistence.

In recent days, we have all spent time trying to make sense of how we can begin returning to our churches, our careers, our businesses and in many cases, to seeing our loved ones again. We, too, have thought these same thoughts and received questions about Stuart Hall and the 2020-21 school year. What will the new school year look like? Will our campus reopen? What modifications are we making for classroom learning and student interaction?

Our steadfast goal is to have the Stuart Hall campus open for all of our boys when the 2020-21 school year commences Aug. 12. Like tens of thousands of businesses and organizations in our community, we are working to figure out how we can best accomplish this goal while our entire community moves through the phases of reopening. This is what we do know right now:

  1. State and city health officials are providing information to schools and businesses related to the reopening of campuses. We are digesting all of this information and outlining how we might modify our physical campus and daily policies and procedures to meet these guidelines.

  2. Stuart Hall has renewed the contracts for all of our faculty and staff in anticipation of on-campus learning beginning, Wednesday, Aug. 12.

  3. Stuart Hall School leadership, including our school division heads, are outlining potential revisions to in-classroom learning layouts, scheduling, and curriculum planning for all grades, and student gathering protocols for schoolwide events, such as Monday Chapel and First Fridays.

  4. The Facilities Committee of the Board of Trustees is assisting with identifying the potential health and safety needs for our physical campus.

  5. The Independent Schools Association of the Southwest/ISAS, the National Association of Independent Schools/NAIS and the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ Office of Catholic Schools are all developing and sharing best practices for school reopening to assist in developing and revising policies in anticipation of the 2020-21 school year.

  6. As announced recently, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to double our annual pool of funds available for need-based financial assistance in the 2020-2021 school year. Any Stuart Hall family in need is eligible and may apply for assistance in the coming school year. In addition, we revised the tuition payment plan for families in the 2020-21 school year.

We assure you that everyone affiliated with Stuart Hall is working with the same goal in mind – reopening Stuart Hall for all of our boys at the scheduled start of the 2020-21 school year, Wednesday, Aug. 12. We want to accomplish this goal while doing our best to ensure the health and safety of our young men, our faculty and staff.

As our plans come into more specific focus in the coming days and weeks, we pledge, in conjunction with our Board, to offer timely updates as the procedures for our reopening take shape further.

In the meantime, thank you all again for the support you have shown for your sons and for Stuart Hall during this unprecedent time. We continue to pray daily for the health, safety, and well-being of our families and every member of our school community.

Sincerely,

Kevin Avin

S/H Art History Challenge

Jean_Paul (1).jpg

As part of the Off-Campus Learning Program at Stuart Hall School for Boys, students were challenged by Art Teacher Mrs. Kirsten Anderson with re-creating a famous work of art using materials from home. The assignment is part of a global art challenge that has gone viral, with museums such as the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Pinchuk Art Centre in Kyiv, Ukraine Ukraine encouraging their followers and fans to reproduce their favorite art masterpieces.

One of Stuart Hall's fourth grade students took the challenge to heart but took it one step further. At only 10 years old, Jean Paul Civil re-created and painted his own version of Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, and it's almost an exact replica. "An artistic talent of this magnitude at such a young age needs to be recognized," Anderson said.

Students in grades PK3-7th at Stuart Hall School also participated in the challenge using resources found at home. You can view our Lower School students’ (1st-4th) wonderful creations in the video below.

Thank you to Karen Swensen and WWL-TV for highlighting our boys’ hard work! A link to their story can be found here.

4-19-2020 OCL & Activities Update

April 19, 2020

Dear Parents,

COVID-19+UPDATE.png

We pray that you and your families are well. We look forward to our next week of Off-Campus Learning (OCL). In addition to our classes, we continue with our Stuart Hall traditional activities. Please make plans to participate in Spirit T-Shirt Day and our virtual Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) Day on Wednesday. Also this week, our Kindergarten Sailor Class will virtually present our Quality of Honesty, with our Superheroes presenting next week. Our Tuesday Childpost will also provide updates about previous and upcoming activities.

In light of Governor Edwards’ official proclamation to educate students using a remote program instead of on campuses, we will conclude our 2019-2020 school year with our OCL Program. We are working on the details for the last weeks of school and closing programs, and will share them with you soon. Simultaneous to that work, we continue to monitor communications from the various levels of government, school officials, and school organizations concerning our highly anticipated safe reset for returning to on-campus activities. Thank you for your patient and thoughtful support of your sons, our boys, with the management of their OCL studies and learning environment during these unprecedented times.

As we actively continue our efforts to mitigate COVID-19, we offer our earnest prayers for all those who have been affected by the virus and those dedicated to serving us daily in the health and medical fields. “It matters much more to our Lord that you should be patient and keep peace of soul, than that everything should be done perfectly, efficiently and to the minute.” - Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ

Update 3-31-2020 - School Closure and More

Hello Parents,

COVID-19+UPDATE.png

As always, we remain in prayer for the well-being of each member of our Stuart Hall Community. We have a brief update about the next few weeks to assist you with your planning.

Governor John Bel Edwards has issued an extended proclamation that statewide school closures and social distancing will continue until April 30th in our efforts to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 in our state and metropolitan area.  We will return to the Stuart Hall campus once there is a firm confirmation from state and local officials.

Additionally, we will modify our approach to Lower School and Middle School Progress Reports, which were scheduled to go home in Childpost on April 7th. Teachers in grades 2nd through 7th will have their grades updated in the Gradebooks on myKnights by April 7.  First through seventh Grade teachers will also be available during office hours should you choose to schedule appointments via email, phone, or Zoom to discuss your son’s progress between now and April 7.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, and we are looking forward to our Holy Week school schedule. We will observe the Easter Triduum and Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Jesus. Our Easter Holiday will begin as initially planned on Holy Thursday, April 9th, with no Off-Campus Learning (OCL) activities. On Wednesday, April 15th, we will resume our OCL schedule with Zone A classes.

We remain flexible during these unprecedented and rapidly evolving circumstances. Our prayers for you and your sons, our boys, along with our educational community unifies and strengthens us. We continue to remember and pray for all of those affected by the Coronavirus.

“Each call which interferes with your wishes and plans is a distinct call from God to give him that. The things matter very little in themselves, but the gift of them matter, and lives forever and ever in the mind of Our Lord.”-Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ

Stuart Hall COVID-19 Announcement

COVID-19 UPDATE (1).png

Today at 1:00 PM, Governor John Bell Edwards issued a proclamation that there would be a statewide school closure to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 in our community.  Beginning on Monday, March 16, Stuart Hall School for Boys will suspend all classes and all activities on and off-campus. We will return to campus once there is a firm confirmation from local and state officials.  We remain centered on the safety and well being of our boys, your sons.  We pledge to you our unwavering support and flexibility during our first-time experience with the mitigation of a virus.

We start this phase of teaching and learning with flexibility for families to get acclimated to off-campus learning and their new schedules with their children and employment.  During the next few weeks, we will “construct” our Stuart Hall School for Boys Community culture using our myKnights online environment to deliver our value-based curriculum that integrates the elements of Faith, Scholarship, Leadership, and Honor. Our teachers’ Daily Announcements will provide prayer and various forms of communication and directions about the day’s lessons. Your sons’ various teachers will include the qualities of friendship, compassion, thankfulness, peacemaker, courage, perseverance, responsibility, and honesty as they present the lessons.  We will carefully carry forward our Stuart Hall culture in our minds, hearts, and actions.

As a community, we will pray: "Effective learning means arriving at new power, and the consciousness of new power is one of the most stimulating things in life." - Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ
